this came with my guitar strap what is it?

when i bought my guitar strap it came with a small black cord with the 2 ends knotted together to form a ring. its got a small hook thingy on it as well? what is it?

Hmm, not sure a picture would clear it up. But it sound like it could be something to stop the strap from popping off the guitar. (In case you do guitar spins haha)
